Rapid Fall from Grace

Dear Hon. PM,

I was so pleased to hear you had become the leader of the ALP and our country. [I resided in London.] I have always been deeply impressed by any interview I have seen with you, and becoming the first woman to lead Australia is really something every Australian can be proud of. I was particularly pleased to hear that you were an atheist yesterday... "Finally", I thought "A Prime Minister that doesn’t believe blindly in spirits and apparitions." Another real step forward. Certainly I believed the logical outcome of clear-sightedness was to give entirely equal rights to the gay and lesbian people of our nation- I mean, you couldn’t stand behind religion anymore.

It seems there will not be full equality under a Gillard labour government however. And without any false deity to stand behind it seems you simply just don’t believe in equality full stop. I guess that makes me more disappointed than I could have ever been under a Rudd or Howard government. It looks like we will have to wait even longer for a government that truly stands up for all its citizens.

Another vote lost to the Greens in 2010, then.
